Tools for Home Working: Conference Call Services

Working from homeWhether you are working from home with your own small business or your home is a remote office within a large organization, there are a number of tools that can help you work more efficiently, productively and effectively. One such tool is a conference call service, which will allow you to keep in touch with colleague, employees or clients and arrange meetings that can be held over the phone.

Among large companies, teleconferencing, or conference calling, is becoming a popular method of communicating, which can save a business precious time and money.

So, what is a conference call service and what should you know about them?

Teleconferencing as a Sales Tool

Today, almost all types of business use conference calls, or teleconferencing. If you own a business, whether it is large or small, you could help promote your products or services with the help of conference calling.

As you may already know, conference calling allows three or more individuals to participate in a phone conversation. This, of course, can be used to hold meetings with employees. However, it can also be used to make a sales pitch to a potential customer or client.

If you are not convinced by the idea of using conference calling to help improve sales, here are just some of the advantagesof teleconferencing over face-to-face meetings:

Proud of British Petroleum?

As I write this I have just read the first bit of positive news about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It seems BP may finally be getting on top of this issue and are stemming the flow of oil into the Gulf by capturing around 10,000 barrels a day; just over half the estimated 12,000 to 19,000 that is leaking from the burst pipe.

It’s probably not a good time to have your nationality associated with this organisation, and they did officially change their name nearly 10 years ago, but BP will always stand for British Petroleum to me. Once the UKs largest company and the fourth largest organisation in the world BP has long posted outlandish profit figures; in fact for the 1st quarter this year BP made a profits of around £40 million a day!

While the scale of this disaster is extraordinary it shouldn’t really come as that much of a surprise as BP has suffered several environmental disasters in recent years: The Texas oil refinery explosion in 2005 and the leak of 267,000 gallons of oil into Prudhoe Bay in Alaska a year later.

When they changed their name to BP in 2001, they also introduced the tag-line of ‘Beyond Petroleum’.   This offered an exciting hope that this, the UK’s largest organisation was going to invest some of those massive profits into heavily researching alternate energy sources.

However since that time the company has continued to pursue oil and gas in more and more extreme locations and at the same time has closed down its ‘Alternative Energy’ HQ .

Things are not looking good :(

Which is a shame... As an organisation the size of BP has the financial capacity to lead the green agenda globally, live up to their tag-line and make us proud of the ‘British’ part of their name.

Either way, we will continue to do our bit by providing quality conference call services.

Meetupcall Completely Unaffected By Ash Clouds (or Strikes)

So the Ash cloud has once again this week closed airports in Ireland and Scotland; another big inconvenience for thousands of people I am sure.  Certainly the effects of the Eyjafjallajökull erruption this month will be remembered for a long time, not just by the airlines but by all businesses throughout Europe that rely on air travel to visit their remote offices, customers and suppliers.

While I beleive that lots of travel, particularly by air, made by businesses is not always necessary, and that the same can be acheived in a much less time consuming, cheaper and environmentally friendly way; it is impossible to deny the importance of air travel to the day to day operation of most medium to large businesses.

In fact I myself was on a 4 day business trip to Istanbul when my flight home was cancelled.  With no sign of the ban lifting and important business to attend to I was initially desperate to get back home.  Now don't get me wrong under normal circumstances I would have loved the opportunity for an extended stay in the beautiful city of Istanbul, but when somebody tells you that you cant go home, that is the first thing you want to do!
